What is Hygge?

Say "hyoo-guh" 🗣️

Hygge is as Danish as æbleskiver and it goes far in illuminating the Danish soul. In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge.

Personal Update

January has been a very cold and decidedly difficult month to do anything. Knowing that winters are hard for me, and in the spirit of Quitters Day (not setting un-achievable goals), I am picking up the technique of the 12 week year.

An important caveat: this is a bro-dude productivity hack type of book and I am doing it my own way, the Moxie way 👉 intentional, slow, fun, silly, and value-based. Not grind it out hustle culture.

This is a system of quarterly goals and projects. I like this framework because it forces me to break my projects down and to seriously consider what I can realistically achieve in approximately 90 days. Also, with a slow and mindful approach, it helps me grasp time and space in a way that thinking about a whole year doesn't.

My 90 day projects for Jan-Mar are focused on the launch of That Moxie Life: Quitters Day edition, producing a Banana Phone zine for each month, and working out 3-5x per week (outside if possible!)

I'm trying really hard to slow my roll and not push for more goals, more productivity, more more more. It's winter, I'm exhausted, and I want to embrace Rest as Resistance at this point in time. And it is with this energy that I enter February.

Listen up! 👂 Science has spoken: communal action is one of the only antidotes to depression, overwhelm, and hopelessness. Which is why I'm inviting you to join That Moxie Life starting Feb 4. Whether or not you made a new year resolution or care to set goals ever, Moxie is a great way to jump start a habit or creative project, engage in communal action, and have fun doing it.

Perhaps there's a thing you keep putting off (even though it means a lot to you): journaling, drawing, reading, working out, eating veggies, flossing, etc. - Moxie can help you finally do that thing and have more fun in the process.

Think of it as a 30 day game where you'll meet some new people, practice behavior change, and create surprising moments of delight. These are the things that rejuvenate us and get us in the good life groove.
