Spring is Coming:🌱 Plant Seeds 🌱

Despite several 60 degree days in Denver, I know we aren't through the woods of Winter just yet. However, I am soaking up every bit of warm spring-y weather that I can. The state of USA politics is abysmal and it being winter makes it that much worse. That's why I want to write to you about silliness, acts of resistance, and the dawning of a new day.

If you're feeling hopeless, exhausted, and like putting your head in the sand: you are not alone. Almost all of my clients are going through these emotions and the point I keep driving home is: it's not your fault. It's winter, let your body respond to the seasons. It's a difficult time, let yourself feel that. It's not your fault that these particular things are transpiring. There are times to get up and fight, there are times to lay down and rest. And that's where the power of community lies: connection allows us to care for each other through the seasons of life.

The power of playfulness in tough times is what my work is all about: joy and playfulness are forms of resistance, they are part of the fight for better-ness. In honor of this idea, I created a snail mail zine called Banana Phone! Banana Phone is your monthly seed planting of silly moments, noticing little things, and smirking. 😏

During the darkest days of the AIDS crisis, we buried our friends in the morning, we protested in the afternoon, and we danced all night. The dance kept us in the fight because it was the dance we were fighting for. [...] We may never eradicate racism and sexism and hatred. But fight it we will. And don't listen to anyone who tells you that music and dance and art and sex and joy are a distraction from the fight. They are a part of the fight -Dan Savage

Personal Update

I feel like I'm losing a part of myself and of my work as I try to disconnect from Instagram and Facebook. IG & FB are the two platforms I have been most familiar with and where it felt easy to post on for all my endeavors. Post-election, I'm feeling like I can't keep indulging in those platforms, as my values are so misaligned with the Zuckerverse.

I'm struggling to transition to other platforms, but I am working on it. Support my escape from the Zuckerverse by following me on these platforms: YouTube, Pinterest and/or LInkedIN.

What seeds do you need to plant within yourself so that when the spring days dawn, they are there, ready to sprout? What kinds of ideas, hopes, and dreams do you need to nurture so that you can rest even when life sucks?

What thought about the future do you need to have to plant the seed of hope within yourself? Keep gardening, my spring chickens.

P.S. Seeds can remain dormant for years. The oldest known germinated seed was a Judean date palm seed that was about 2,000 years old.
